Greetings in Jesus’ precious name.

I have heard it said that I ordained Pak Ok Soo as a pastor; and I think it even appears on his website. However, that is not the case, and I am not sure why he would make that claim. His title of “pastor” is something that he took upon himself in spite of my advising him to the contrary: there are no credentials behind his title, he basically ordained himself. My understanding of the church and its structure is quite different from his; and my view of what a pastor is is quite different from his. However, that is not the subject of this discussion; we can pursue that topic in another communication.

제가 박옥수에게 목사 안수를 줬다 하는 얘기를 들었습니다; 심지어는 그의 웹사이트에도 그렇게 되어 있는 것으로 생각됩니다. 

God said of the house of Israel, “I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their ?iniquities will I remember no more” (Hebrews 8: 12). Then he took away the Old Covenant whereby they had to make continual sacrifices for sins every year, and by the offering of himself he made the final sacrifice for all of their sins, and remembered them no more. “For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified…this is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, ‘I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” In the Old covenant they had the law (a kind of rule book that was external that they had to try to live up to). In the new covenant, that law of righteousness would be written right in their hearts, compelling them from within to walk in righteousness.

하나님께서는 이스라엘에 대해 "내가 그들의 불의에 대하여 긍휼을 베풀고 다시는 그들의 죄들과 그들의 불법들을 기억하지 아니하리라, 하시느니라.(히 8:12)" 하셨습니다. 

그 때 그 분께선 매 년 그들의 죄들을 위해 그들이 계속적으로 희생을 드려야 했던 구약의 언약을 거둬가시고, 그 분 자신이 그들 모두의 죄를 위해 최종적 희생이 되어 주시므로 그 죄들을 더 이상 기억지 않으시겠다고 하신 것입니다.

Concerning sanctification: The word means “to be set apart” from the world. It is the same as the word “saints.” The word “holy” has the same meaning. God is holy because he is distinct from everyth?ing else. We are to be holy, for he is holy. The apostle Paul referred to the Christians to whom he wrote as “saints” because, according to Hebrews 10: 10, we are sanctified by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. If we are in Christ (if we are truly born-again), the Bible says we are new creatures; old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5: 17). So then, when a true believer, through repentance and faith has received the life of Christ dwelling within him, he has the witness of the Spirit within him that he has become a child of God (Romans 8: 16), and his desire is to be holy. If that is not his case, he has not been born again of the Spirit.

성화에 대해서:  이 단어의 의미는 세상으로부터 "따로 떨어진다(분리)"입니다. 

이것은 "성도"와 같은 뜻입니다. 

"성스러운"이란 단어도  같은 의미입니다. 

하나님은 그 어떤 것으로 부터도 별개이시기 때문에 성스러우신 것입니다.  우리도 성스러워야 합니다.  왜냐하면 그 분께서 성스러우시기 때문입니다. 

사도 바울은 히 10:10에서그리스도인들을  "성도들"이라고 쓰고 있는데 그 이유는 우리가 예수 그리스도의 육체의 희생 제물로 인해 한 번에 모두 성화되었기 때문입니다. 

When one is born-again, it should be evident to him that that is a beginning, not an end. Birth is the beginning of life: when we were born the first time, we then began to grow to maturity; so it is with our second birth, we begin to grow up into the image of Christ. That process of spiritual growth is often referred to as sanctification. It is the normal result of having been born again. However, it is also normal for a Christian to exper?ience a conflict between the old man (his flesh), and the new man (the Spirit of Christ in him). Paul wrote, “This I say, then, walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other….” (Galatians 5: 16,17).

거듭났다는 것은 그것이 시작의 증거인 것이지 끝이 아닌 것입니다. 

출생은 생명의 시작입니다:  우리가 첫 번째 태어난 것이 성숙하게 되는 데까지 자라는데 있어서의 시작이었듯이 두 번째의 출생도 그러합니다. 

우리는 그리스도의 모습이 되도록 성장하기 시작하는 것입니다.  그 영적 성장 과정을 우린 종종 성화라 하는 것입니다.  성화는 정상적인 거듭남의 결과입니다. 

그런데 옛사람(그의 육체)과 새사람(그 안에 계신 그리스도의 영) 사이에 충돌을 겪는 경험 또한 그리스도인이라면 당연히 겪는 일인 것입니다.  바울은 "그런즉 내가 이것을 말하노니 곧 성령 안에서 걸으라. 그리하면 너희가 육신의 욕심을 이루지 아니하리라. 육신은 성령을 대적하여 욕심을 부리고 성령은 육신을 대적하나니 이 둘이 서로 반대가 되므로..."(갈 5:16,17)라고 했습니다.

Sometimes we hear the question, “Do you have sin?” And you are expected to answer, “No.” But most true believers who know what the Bible says cannot answer that way because they know that the Bible does not answer that way. Sin is in our members (our body). Our Spirit has been born again and made holy, but the sin in our flesh still wants to rule us: so Paul said, (Romans 6: 12-14) “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.  Neither yield ye your members (hands, feet, mouth, mind) as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield ye yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you…” So the fact is we have been made free from sin, because it does not any longer have dominion over us; we have dominion over it if we walk in the spirit. But sin is still present. That is why the apostle John wrote to believers, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our ?sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. My little children, these things write I unto you that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the propitiation (the offering that totally satisfies God’s justice) for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, ‘I know him’, and keepeth not his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 1: 8- 2: 4).

죄는 우리 지체(우리 몸) 안에 있습니다.  우리의 영은 거듭나서 성스럽게 되었지만 우리 육체 안에 있는 죄는 여전히 우리를 지배하기를 원합니다:  그래서 바울은 롬 6:12-14에서

"그러므로 너희는 너의 죽을 몸 안에서 군림하지 못하게 하여 몸의 정욕 안에서 죄에게 순종하지 말고 또한 너희 지체(손, 발, 입. 정신)를 불의의 도구로 죄에게 내주지 말며 오직 너희 자신을 죽은 자들로부터 살아난 자로서 하나님께 드리고 너희 지체를 의의 도구로 하나님께 드리라.

너희가 율법 아래 있지 아니하고 은혜 아래 있으므로 죄가 너희를 지배하지 못하리라."라고 했습니다.  그러니까 사실 죄가 더 이상 우리를 지배하지 않기 때문에 죄로부터 자유롭게 된 것입니다; 우리가 영 안에서 걷는다면 우리가 죄를 지배하게 되는 것입니다.  그러니까 죄는 여전히 존재합니다.  그것이 사도 요한이 믿는 자들에게 다음과 같이 말한 이유입니다:

"만일 우리에게 죄가 없다고 우리가 말하면 우리가 우리 자신을 속이며 또 진리가 우리 속에 있지 아니하니라(요일 1:8)....

나의 어린 자녀들아, 내가 이것들을 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희가 죄를 짓지 아니하게 하려 함이라. 만일 누가 죄를 지어도 우리에게 아버지와 함께 계신 변호자가 계시니 곧 의로우신 분 예수 그리스도시라. 그분은 우리의 죄들로 인한 화해 헌물이시니 우리의 죄들뿐 아니요 온 세상의 죄들로 인한 화해 헌물이시니라.또 우리가 그분의 명령들을 지키면 이로써 우리가 그분을 아는 줄 우리가 아느니라. 내가 그분을 아노라, 하면서 그분의 명령들을 지키지 아니하는 자는 거짓말하는 자요 진리가 그 속에 있지 아니하되   (요일2:1-4)
 
 

Some people teach that “Grace” excuses sin: now that we are saved, we are under grace, so God looks the other way when we sin. That is not a true definition of grace. “[Grace teaches] us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our savior Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” (Titus 2: 12-14). Grace does not excuse sin; it gives us power over sin so that we can live our lives according to the will of God. Paul wrote, “Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Romans 6: 1, 2). It is this opportunity to overcome sin and the world by grace through faith that is the sanctifying experience that is transforming us into the image of Christ. 

어떤 사람들은 은혜로 죄를 변명하는 가르침을 합니다:  이제 우리가 구원 받았으니 우리는 은혜 아래 있고 그래서 우리가 죄를 질 땐 하나님은 딴 데를 쳐다보고 계신다고요. 

이것은 은혜의 참 정의가 아닙니다. 

"(은혜가)우리를 가르치시되 경건치 아니한 것과 세상에 속한 정욕들을 우리가 거부하고 이 현 세상에서 맑은 정신을 가지고 의롭게 하나님의 뜻대로 살며 저 복된 소망과 위대하신 하나님 곧 우리의 구원자 예수 그리스도의 영광스러운 나타나심을 기다리게 하셨느니라. 그분께서 우리를 위하여 자신을 주심은 모든 불법으로부터 친히 우리를 구속하시고 정결하게 하사 선한 행위에 열심을 내는 백성 곧 자신을 위한 특별한 백성이 되게 하려 하심이라."(딛 2:12-14) 

은혜는 죄를 변명하지 않습니다.  은혜는 우리에게 죄를 이길 능력을 주셔서 우리 삷을 하나님의 뜻에 따라 살 수 있게 해 줍니다.  바울이 썼듯이

"그런즉 우리가 무슨 말을 하리요? 은혜가 넘치게 하려고 우리가 죄 가운데 거하겠느냐? 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 죄에 대하여 죽은 우리가 어찌 그 가운데서 더 살리요?(롬 6:1,2) 하였습니다. 

그것이 믿음을 통한 은혜로써 죄와 세상을 이길 기회를 얻는 것이며 그리스도의 모습으로 변화되어 가는 성화의 체험을 하는 것입니다. 

 “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. ?Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself even as he is pure.” (1 John 3: 1-3).

"보라, 아버지께서 어떠한 사랑을 우리에게 베푸사 우리가 하나님의 아들들이라 불리게 하셨는가. 그런즉 세상이 우리를 알지 못함은 세상이 그분을 알지 못하였기 때문이라. 
사랑하는 자들아, 이제 우리는 하나님의 아들들이니라. 우리가 앞으로 어떻게 될지는 아직 나타나지 아니하였으되 그분께서 나타나시면 우리가 그분과 같게 될 줄 아노니 이는 우리가 그분을 그분께서 계신 그대로 볼 것이기 때문이라.  그분 안에서 이 소망을 가진 자마다 그분께서 순결하신 것 같이 자기를 순결하게 하느니라.(요일 3:1-3)

So, in simple terms, when I am saved, Christ comes into my life, and writes his law of righteousness into my heart. He totally forgets every sin I ever committed. He took care of my sins that are past with his own sacrifice. (Romans 3: 25)

 
그러니까 쉽게 말하자면 구원을 받게 되면 그리스도께서 내 삶에 들어 오셔서 그분의 의의 법을 나의 마음에 기록하시는 것입니다. 

그 분은 내가 지은 죄를 완전히 잊어 주십니다. 

그 분은 그 분 자신의 희생으로 지나간 나의 죄를 해결해 주셨습니다. (롬 3:25)

His sacrifice also takes care of sins on a daily basis. If I confess my sins, he is faithful and just to forgive my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1: 7-10)

 
그분의 희생은 매일 짓는 죄 또한 해결합니다.  

"만일 우리가 우리의 죄들을 자백하면 그분께서는 신실하시고 의로우사 우리의 죄들을 용서하시며 모든 불의에서 우리를 깨끗하게 하시느니라.(요일 1:7-10)"

His grace gives me power over all sin and teaches me to walk in righteousness and true holiness. (Titus 2: 11-14; Ephesians 4: 24)

그 분의 은혜는 모든 죄를 이길 힘을 주시며 의 안에서 걷도록 가르치고 참 성스러움이 뭔지 가르칩니다.(딛 2:11-14; 엡 4:24)

With my affections set on Jesus, I begin to think like him, love what he loves, have his vision (Colossians 3: 1-4; 2 Corinthians 3: 17-18). ?

예수 그리스도를 사모함으로 나도 그 분과 같이 생각하기 시작하고, 그 분이 사랑하는 것을 사랑하며 그 분의 비젼을 갖습니다.(골 3:1-4; 고후 3:17,18)

His is what sanctification is all about.

 그 분의 것이 곧 성화의 모든 것입니다.
